What could I add that that would give 5 axis IBIS though? I don't know if I'd see much difference in image quality going from the GX7 to GX9 but I would like the IBIS.

The EM5ii has great IBIS, right?

I guess if I still had the GX7, I'd probably upgrade it to the GX9, so to be honest, that's a pretty tempting choice (and keep the GX7 as the backup).

There won't be a big difference in single shot, pre-focused image quality going from the GX7 to any modern m43 camera, but:

  • This nonsense where the new cameras take pictures before you do, and then let you grab one of them ... wow, that is pretty insanely handy for birds and bugs and kids.
  • The various improvements on the shutter and e-shutter in the GX9 are probably worth the upgrade right there (I did have some mild shutter shock issues with GX7, which is why I'd shoot bursts, as at most 1 out of 3 would have shutter shock).
  • The IBIS is dramatically improved over the GX7 (to either the GX9 or the EM5ii).
  • The various hybrid still/video modes (e.g. "4k photo mode") are pretty cool.

The big benefit that the EM5ii has is the weather proofing. The big benefit that the GX9 has is that you already know the body and 90% of the features, plus the tilting EVF is pretty much a "must have" for me now.
