A6500+FE 85/1.8 samples - seals, polar bears etc

The FE 85/1.8 is a fantastic portrait lens, with nice smooth bokeh. I have some beautiful portraits of my wife which I won't post for privacy reasons. Here are a couple of dog portraits instead, plus use as a short tele at Asahiyama Zoo, Hokkaido. I decided to bring this instead of my FE 70-200/4 or 55-210/4.5-6.3 and don't regret it.

Full size samples for your pixel peeping pleasure.

Some of these photos are cropped and I have commented below.

Note, this lens' biggest weakness is colour fringing of our of focus edges. I did manual defringe on Lightroom through the fringe colour eyedropper tool, though some remains. This is not at all unusual for fast 85mm lenses and does improve a lot when stopped down.

1/250th, F4, ISO 100

1/640th, F2, ISO 100. Good sharpness at F2! I used adjustment brush here to add shadows, highlights and whites to the dog here, because there was high dynamic range and I didn't want to lose the colours of the sky by increasing overall exposure.

At 3030x2086 this is a heavy crop. 1/1000th, F4, ISO 500

This is the uncropped version of the above image

This polar bear was a big furry ball of fun! Heavy crop (3870x2580). 1/800th, F2.8, ISO 200.
