Best beginner camera for night time cityscapes

Therefore you want a camera with a high dynamic range. In general, larger sensors tend to have a higher range. Full frame cameras are beyond your budget, but you may find an APS-C camera, such as the A6000 which has already been mentioned, at an affordable price.

24 Megapixels is a usable resolution. I would not go much below that for cityscapes, if you want to show detail in office blocks etc.

Depends on how large you print.

You have to go to 16 x 20" or larger to see the resolution difference between 18mp and 24mp.

A good small table-top style tripod is often enough as there are usually low walls, benches etc that you can put it on.
