Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4E PF ED VR for BIF ???

Hi all,

I own Olympus E-M1 Mark II plus lenses. Mostly I do landscapes and I am trying birds in flight pictures. I am not satisfied of IQ m4/3 format and am thinkig specially for BIF to go back to Nikon. mostly Nikon D500. The question is which lens ?

As I went to Oly, it was because of small, light equipment. From that point of view I am looking for comparable light lens. I know best zoom for BIF is Canon 100-400 Mk. 2, but body + lens is about 2.500 grams and also 7D Mk.II is old technology... wonderfull body is Nikon D500, but 200-500 mm lens is 2300 grams heavy + body = up 3.000 grams.

My idea is Nikon 300 PF. only 750 grams "heavy" and 150 mm long. excellent IQ and good possibility to use + convertors 1,4x , 1,7x  and 2x. Because it is monofocal lens, IQ is excelent (confirmed with many reviews).

What abour Autofocusing of this lens for birding ? Is the AF on Nikon D500 sufficient for BIF ? What is your experience, please ?

I know, there are new 100-400 mm Tamron and Sigma, but mostly I am oriented on 300 PF 4 lens.

Thanks in advance.
