You'll find quite a bit of discussion here although the emphasis isn't on older lenses.

One respected optic that I haven't tested yet, is the AF 85/1.4D.

Note that what makes a lens good for background bokeh, actually makes foreground bokeh worse; the DC lenses allow you to select which you prefer.  Also, smooth focus transitions and creamy background bokeh do not always come in the same package.  One of Nikon's very best for transitions is the 58/1.4G.
