External HD (G-RAID) - usb 3.0 vs Thunderbolt 3

Greetings

I'm looking to get an external RAID (G-Technology G-RAID) and am trying to figure out whether I need Thunderbolt 3 (or USB-C) or if USB 3.0 is sufficient. I'm not sure I fully understand the difference, particularly whether Thunderbolt 3 will actually give me better performance, so I'm turning to the wisdom of this forum

I'm comparing these two drives and there's a meaningful price difference between the two:

Thunderbolt 3 - http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-raid-tb3

USB 3.0 only - http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-raid-removable

Thanks in advance!
