This won't work well if the reason for a long exposure was to smooth flowing water or similar reasons, but it will reduce noise quite a bit.

Actually it can work well for smoothing flowing water. The trick is to use the highest speed burst possible, or to use more individual frames.

About 10 frames stacked from a 12fps handheld burst
