18-55 f2.8 - f4 lens fault

hey all.

i recently bought from an ebayer this lens. when i unpacked it and inspected the lens elements, i was perturbed to find this odd opaque foreign body inside.

it was closest to the base at 18mm then extended away from the base during zoom out to 55mm.

my question is ... is it a major fault or do you think i can i get away with using it?

the seller claims it doesnt affect the image quality but i am dubious.

imma bit miffed.

thanks for your thoughts on this
