RGB RAW to monochrome processing - advantages of specific software

I wonder about advantages of specific software (or settings) for processing RGB RAW to black and white images. For example for Iridient Developer specific monochrome processing options are mentioned, and AccuRaw Monochrome is even specifically targeted at monochrome image processing (and modded cameras). Maybe RawTherapee and other software can be tweaked for processing B&W images as well.

Does it make sense to use specific software for B&W RAW conversion? Who can share insight into and experience with specific software or settings? So far I have used Lightroom and/or Silver Efex for conversion, and have been happy enough with these tools, but I wonder if miss out on some major quality or usability improvements.
