The gold lettering is flaking off my G lenses

I love my f1.8 G primes (24, 28, 35, 50, and 85mm). Optically they outperform the Ai and Ai-S manual focus primes that I used previously. But cosmetically they're somewhat disappointing. For example, take a look at my 28 f1.8G – at least I think it's my 28 f1.8G, but it's hard to tell as most of the gold lettering has rubbed off. I've never seen anything like this with my old Nikkors from the 70s and 80s. Their white lettering is designed to withstand years of heavy usage. I know these 1.8G lenses are cheap, but they're not that cheap. And this is not just a question of aesthetics - I need to be able to quickly select the right lens for the job in hand, and as the gold lettering flakes off it becomes increasingly difficult to pick out the right lens.

Hmm, I wonder if there's a fix for this? Would Nikon swap out that panel?
