Hoya UV Filter Degrades IQ 100-400

Today took some shots with A6500 and the Sony 100-400 GM and was disappointed that clarity and sharpness was not what I expected.  Recently I installed a Hoya 77 UV filter and decided to try the lens on my A7rII with and without the filter.  The image pairs were shockingly different.  Here is a sample pair, shot on tripod, shutter delay RAW image.

I performed a total of 10 pairs, everyone confirmed the filter was degrading image sharpness.  400mm.  For this pair focus was on the blue vase.
