So, for those living under a rock, the GX9 was announced, which divided the Panny GX series users. But let's cut to the chase, please....
-GX8 users, please stop complaining, it's Not a GX9, we don't know whom to blame yet, but in Japan, it's known as the GX7 MKIII. I mean c'mon, it looks Just Like the GX85, aka the GX80, aka the GX7 MKII, -WHICH for sane reasoning, I'm going to call it what it really is, the GX7 MKII. As to whom to blame, something tells me to point my finger to Panasonic USA, and their marketing team. But, at the end of the day, it's Just a name and I'm going with what the Japanese call it.
-Now, that that's out the way, GX8 users shouldn't fret. Who's to say Panasonic doesn't have a G9 guts in a GX8 body on the way? Sure, Panasonic is pushing the G9 to be "the" stills focused camera, but let's look at Fujifilm for a minute...
-Fujifilm has the X-Pro 2, the XE-3 & the X100F (rangefinder styled bodies)
They also have the XT-2, XT20 & XH1, their DSLR styled bodies.
Now the Japanese like copying the competition, and looking at fujifilm, the XT series sells more than the X-Pro/XE series. So much so, that Fujifilm weren't going to release a XE3, until a vocal community raised enough noise for Fuji to react. What I'm trying to say is, Panasonic has a camera in the XE range, so who's to say that they don't have a X-pro range camera coming?
Our only question should be, what will they call it?
My point is, calling this the successor to the GX8 is Only Marketing talk, and just because someone named it the GX9, doesn't mean there's not a GXX, the "true" successor to the GX8 down the pipeline. Let's not forget... There was the L-1, the GF1, then the GF2, the GX1, the GX7, the GX8, the GX85....
Get my point?
