I came across a JJC LC-37C Auto Open lens cap which is designed to fit the Olympus 14-42 EZ lens which uses the same 37mm filter thread as the G1x Mark III (It also fits the Panasonic 12-32) and it looks like it could also be adapted to fit onto the G1x Mark III (there is also a version designed for the Sony 16-50 PZ lens) by doing a bit of research on the lens cap there are 2 small tabs that close the lens cap blades when the lens is switched off (when pressure is applied to the tabs) and then open up when the lens extends, it looks like this could work with the G1x3 and would be a good alternative lens cap to the one supplied by Canon and wouldn't need to be removed, the only downside would be you won't be able to mount filters with this cap attached.

Thanks for this information, it's a very interesting idea indeed: since it's the same tread size, it should work without problems.

Has anyone tried this Auto Lens cap on the G1X Mk III?
