Seriously, Panny’s only real GX9 blunder

And this was the same exact blunder with the GX7 -> GX8 “upgrade”:

Panasonic fails at managing expectations, instead they see-saw between different visions. So of course some GX7 users hated the GX8 for being bigger and grander.

But then some of us who liked the GX8 fell for the same thing, and felt betrayed with the GX9 looking like a real downgrade.

So which is it? Panasonic blew it twice in two opposite directions. The GX7 effectively misled some of you into expectations of what its successor would likely be, and the GX8 did the same thing for some of us. Moral of the story? Each Panasonic camera at least in the hump-free category should be seen more or less as a one-off.

Look what happened with other rangefinder styles in the industry:

Sony: NEX-7, so promising, near perfect, and never followed up with an upgrade of any kind. Only the NEX-6, A6xxx downgrades. And when FF came out, only the fixed lens RX1s (which I adored and purchased) came out, but no top of the line RF style with interchangeable lenses.

Fuji: XPro came out, then the XT with hump got all the glory, and the XPro2, while nice, still not really top of their line.

Leica: never mind

Olympus: pens? Really? Olympus serious cameras have humps. PenF EVF a joke.

The GX8 was such a great holdout.
