No.

If you share a card among different cameras of different brands, you might need to re-format when you put the card in a different camera. Usually in that case, the format is also creating a default file structure including camera specific database files and folders. If you just have one camera, then re-formatting does nothing except take extra time and (slightly) increase wear on the card.

Some people feel more comfortable re-formatting every time, it is hardly the worst thing you can do (but rarely necessary).
