In my limited experience of women, those who are not interested in photography, if they get a camera, get one based on what they want to do with it. Those who are interested in photography treat it much the same as a man does. I think that is the flaw in designing an ILC directed at women. Essentially, women in the market for an ILC are the same demographic as men -keen photographers who are quite aware of what they are buying.

You're missing the point. Gender specificity is in; it is all over the place . This marketing ploy on the part of Olympus and Fuji is designed too take advantage of the trend. If you like style - and many women do, not just women I love style in my tools - and have been thinking of getting something a little better than a phone for photography this might well appeal.. It's for younger women - the ones who are comfortable with their femininity, not for the generation. that grew up reading the feminine mystique.

I'm not missing the point at all. There was always a thing about cameras being 'male jewellery' - and I think for some that's on the button. I wouldn't think that many women have such a reaction, those in the market for a system camera probably want a system camera, not a piece of jewellery.

Of course for you style = "jewellery" that is inherently against function: what Puritanical nonsense.

Where, oh where did I say anything about style being inherently against function? As for the Puritanical nonsense, that's nonsense.
