The trick with CostCo

CostCo generally use Fuji/Epson or Noritsu printers with Fuji paper - this combination is extremely capable, and it's amazing that they use them primarily for peoples holiday snaps and Christmas cards!!

The printers come in at approximativ $100,000 each, and will provide excellent IQ, as long as you do two things.

Tell the CostCo staff to switch off AUTO mode - this is their catch all auto exposure/WB/Color mode to help save terrible snapshots.

Use the specific color profile for the store/machine you're using, as part of your color workflow prior to printing.

These are available from Dry Creek Photo for free - they have a database of profiles for print machines, by location - and instructions on their website to allow you to use these profiles to get accurate/predictable colors in your final prints.

Worth taking the time - and the cost of prints is so reasonable at CostCo you'd be crazy not to give it a try.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it arguing about camera features - go out and capture memories
