What would Asian and European women think?

Yes that would be a valid comment.  The essence of my comment was more “was any different from a man with a similar interest in photography” and therefore a man in a similar level of interest would be more likely to want a similar basic capablility camera that he could pocket.

This forum is full of such desires.

However women who can be equally serious and competent at photography would still wish to invest in kit very similar to a like minded man.

When it comes to camera as fashion accessory then men and women follow their own fashions but it might have little to do with a camera as a serious tool.  Even big brutish looking cameras with equally brutish looking lenses can be fashionable for a man.  The bigger the statement sometimes the better.  There are such things as camera-SUV’s which are used like point’n’shoots to their owners full satisfaction and that one day they are going to take it off road and shoot a few birds ....
