Take a look at this

It does show that what we 'know' is true - the 135/2 was a great lens in its day, but both the f/2.8 and f/4 zooms are on a par with it for focussing, sharpness and even bokeh (which can be finessed in post anyway). I loved mine but sold it (to someone else who would love it) and now I have the Fuji 90mm f/2 (= 135mm FF) - plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose!

The 135 length is a bit long for most weddings. My wife, who is the lead photographer when we do weddings, uses the 24 - 70mm while I stand back and use the longer lenses for details and single portraits.

70-200L F4 is not "on par with 135 bokeh"....and how could it when it's 2 stops slower, however the F2.8 sure is.

True - I was linking too many examples together.  Let's say at f/4, which I know is not quite the same thing.

135mm too long? Its PERFECT for portraits, and many wedding ceremony shots, as well as reception. You'd be hard pressed to find a real pro that would agree with you.

I suppose it depends how far away you are.  Must try to find weddings with bigger venues.
