Out local Best Buy has a Very Small amount of DSLR's in stock, but they do have the 80D & now the SL-2, which I saw & handled briefly yesterday. I really like this camera & am planning on renting the body sometime in May & "road test" it. Small, & would love to be able to replace my aging 300D & 30D with this body. It depends on how well it works for me & finding the funds to buy one.
It is a terrific camera that made me switch back to a DSLR from M4/3. For me. the 9 point AF is quite sufficient and the dual pixel AF is really a gem. The quality lightweight lenses and fixed aperture pancake lenses 24 2.8, 40 2.8 and a little larger 50 1.8 are a real treat to use. The equally lightweight 10-20 4.5-5.6, 18-135 3-5.6 and the 55-250 4-5.6 all STM lenses fast and quiet.
I picked up the SL2 last September and have come to really like this camera. It delivers IQ in spades and, I agree, that all the new STM lenses are outstanding values. I originally bought it as a stop gap measure until a MILC came out that checked enough boxes for me buy one. The SL2 has pushed this decision off quite a ways for me. I picked up the EF-S 18-55mm STM f/4.0-5.6 and the EF-S 10-18mm lenses to go with the EF-S 55-250mm STM and EF 50mm STM and this combination gets me excellent results from an effective range of 16mm-400mm. I have all this after spending a little over $1,000 for the entire package or for about the price of the M5 and kit lens.
Many of the lenses can be picked up refurbished or used in like new condition for quite a saving. This kit really covers it all and I couldn't be happier. There are many websites that have a buy/sell section that that is frequented by photo enthusiasts with perfect 100% feedback ratings. One such site is fredmiranda.com Check it out.
I bought my EF-S 55-250mm from a seller at Fred Miranda's site for $125 with no issues at all. Just pick a seller that has a decent history there.
