Nikon 24-120 f4 question
1

I hope people will indulge this question.

I am planning on re-entering "Nikon world" and have narrowed my choices to either a 7200 with the 16-80 lens, or the 750 with the 24-120 lens (I have to commit to APS or FF).  In researching these lenses the 16-80 seems like a really good lens for DX.  My question stems from a comment on Thom Hogan's site that he has found the quality of this lens to be vary variable (in his "sour" list).  Granted, Thom is just one person, but he sees more gear in a year than I will in a life time.  This apparent QC problem has me concerned (especially after all the talk about the Sony/Zeiss 16-70 E mount).  I know there is a large number of members here who will have this lens making it a valuble statistical sample.  Right now Nikon is running quite a deal on 750 + the 24-120 ($800 off), which would make this combo very attractive.

So - is this a quality lens or are there "problems" out there?  Inconsistent lenses, decentering, soft corners?  My use would be primarily mountain landscapes (but not solely) i.e., bright light so maybe seldom at f4 and much more often f8-11.
