You people are obsessed with FF
Because we shoot FF too?
As for Nikon there was a gain in base ISO DR and image quality thanks to moving to a 64 ISO base
A gain in base ISO DR? Over five years elapsed between the D800 (base ISO 100) to the D850 base ISO of 64 and that resulted in a whopping 0.2EV gain.
The base ISO of 64 of the D810 vs the D800 also gave cleaner shadows I am a long term Nikon shooters and the DR advantage in use is closer to half a stop over the D800 not huge but then we are already dealing with the best on the market DR at that time

The DR is outstanding, no argument but let's not make too much of such "progress".
The EM1mkII gained nearly 0.5EV PDR vs the PEN-F in just 8 months. Will the GH5S or G9 top this? Possibly.

And those numbers are clearly not related to Shadow DR as can clearly be seen in the RAW DR test by Dpreview which is pretty much hidden on m43 tests for good reason I suspect. Bill's tests are based on what the in-camera ISO states not on any measured ISO per se which given Olympus's flexibility of ISO definitions makes me concerned . Without any bias do you honestly see any gain in these samples from a selection of m43 cameras. If anything I would say the Pen F is marginally cleaner with the GH5 being the leader by the slightest of margins . Actual RAW results is what matters to me the charts serve no great purpose beyond providing ammunition for " chats " in the forum

which I really wish m43 would do a true 50 base ISO would do a lot to advance image laity with regards to base ISO DR and shadow noise . Instead of this we get ever dafter high ISO options
Valid point and most are in agreement.
What really irks me about it is just how easily it could be done with current technology no miracle sensor tech needed. Though it may not seem so I would love to get rid of my FF gear and a 50 base ISO m43 sensor with a few more extra MP would facilitate that nicely I have been shooting with m43 since 2009 and given the excellent selection of fast primes and the superb IBIS options we have { for static stuff } a slower base ISO would be no hardship yet offer so much
It does not matter if you shoot with the cheaper 16mp m43 models or the G9 and E-M1II at £1500 you get very poor shadow DR SSDD
Akin to saying you get very poor resolution from the $6,500 D5. Or poor video from the $4,000 5DS R. There are strengths and weaknesses to every camera. Expecting magic results when you +5EV boost a mFT sensor is unrealistic expectation IMO.
But in this area there is no m43 option that has a worthwhile advantage regardless how much or little you pay since the E-M5 1 there has been basically no shadow DR advance of any merit
While this is of course an extreme example the need to push shadows to balance a composition is often critical be it in a landscape image or a bird against a bright sky. If m43 had a true base ISO of 50 it would pretty much do it all for me . I do not shoot shallow DOF at all by choice at least and I almost never shoot high ISO so give me a m43 sensor with a lower base ISO and ideally a few more MP and I would get rid of any FF gear
It's a rare occurrence no? How many of your last 100 images did you process to +5EV? With my Sony's I am +/- 2EV at most (mainly because the matrix metering is often hit/miss. With Canon/Olympus rarely more than +/- 1EV.
I push shadows on a very regular basis as do for example BIF shooters { the resulting noise of which ruins many otherwise superbly captured images } certainly not by 5 stops . While as I specifically pointed out it is indeed an extreme example however on the FF cameras and for that matter the better APS cameras there is effectively no penalty for doing so whereas with any m43 it would be disastrous . Plus with or without shadow pushing thanks to a combination of too high a base ISO and the smaller sensor even base ISO m43 files have more noise than I like
