When I switched from right to left I started to rotate the camera in portrait mode to clockwise, instead of counterclockwise. This way the touchscreen is available (although can see the scene with the right eye, which can be good or bad).

If I need to reduce shake, I let  the camera rest in my right-hand palm and press the shutter button with the right thumb. Works great on my 80D and M5 (if the lens is not too heavy). Here are to images, just in case my description is difficult to understand:
