Where's the best place to store SD cards when traveling

I plan on taking a number of SD cards with me on holiday. I'm told it's not a good idea to loosely store SD cards. I'll need to know what cards have been written to and what are blank, so maybe I'll need two storage places. I'm taking two different cameras with me overseas so if I do pre-format the cards in the cameras I'll need to know which pre-formatted card belongs to which camera.

I brought a SD card wallet (think tank product) both it might be too big to take with me. The cards slip into plastic slots but I feel plastic on card contacts is not a good idea (but maybe there is not static charge).

My camera bags are tight for room as I didn't want to buy large sized bags when traveling overseas. My carry on luggage size is limited on a coach tour.

I'd be interested in knowing where photographers safely store their camera SD cards.
