New SL2 IS runs constantly in live view
1

Just got a new SL2 and discovered that the IS on my lenses runs all the time when shooting live view.  I have a SL1 and 6D and they don't behave like this.  I knew the newer mirrorless like the M5 did this and that was one of the reasons why I decided on the SL2 over M5.

Is there any way to turn off this stupid behavior?

This is rediculous.  I see no technical reason for this.

I'm really disappointed in Canon these days.  They are so far behind every other Camera company in so many ways.  I have always liked my SL1 and looked forward to the newer version, but now I'm not so happy.   The viewfinder on these camera has always been poor and that is OK if the LV is a viable option.  I also now have to put up with turning the back LCD on/off manually just because someone figured they could save a buck or 2 per camera by removing the eye sensor.

Sorry for the rant, but after 40 years of using Canon gear I've hit the point where I'm seriously considering dumping everything.
