Nikon 70-300 AF-P VR DX vs Tamron 70-300 VC (FX)

Thinking about getting one of these lenses. I have a D3300 and a D90 (which I still like though it is old tech now). I also have a 55-300 (picked up cheap) and the AF hunting is annoying. Before I got that I had been planning for the Tamron 70-300 VC

Reviews for the new 70-300 AF-P DX VR lens seem good, it is light (415g) and apparently sharp and very fast AF. But it will only work on the D3300.

The Tamron is similar to the (non-AFP) FX Nikon 70-300 VR. I read Thom Hogan recommend the AF-P DX over the venerable 70-300 VR FX, and other comments that the older lenses will be sub-par on the newer 24mp sensors.

Anyone done a real life comparison ? and/or have a view?

thanks in advance
