I was looking for a small light camera to take with me on holiday as I did not want to drag around a heavy dSLR camera so I brought the G7 camera. With the 14-140mm lens I'm not likely to want to change the lens. I was also impressed by the features that this camera has to offer. Out of the G7 and the G85 I chose the G7 as it was lighter.

There definitely is a 93 gram weight difference, but the 85 adds some weather sealing which is sometimes important for travel. The G7 is completely silent since there is no IS, but I have to say the IS is great for photos and videos. The light and sharp 14-42 ii kit lens has Dual IS compatibility with the 85.

The 85 has no video record limit in US and the video files are one big file. The G7 can be hacked to provide unlimited time. The GX85 can be hacked to provide CineD (tested) and V-Log (I don't use it so I didn't test it). The GX85 has IS and is compact, but about as heavy as the 85. Smaller battery. Some of my G7s have an electrical fault where if you press hard on the back, behind the screen, the image jumps around. It can be fixed by removing the back, but it is a pain. Not all G7 are the same inside, interestingly enough, but the image is the same. 85 has marginally better photo and video IQ than the G7 but it is tiny.

One thing that was not added was the battery life between the G7 and the G85. The G7 has a longer battery life. I think this might be because extra power is needed to the cameras stabilizer.
