SD1 vs Sony A65 (14.7 MP Foveon vs 24 MP Bayer) revisited
1

The SD1 has the advantage here, because I used a really good prime lens on the Sigma camera, but the Sony still held its own, I think. Maybe it's the extra megapixels.

I used a compression setting of 98 in GIMP for each of these. The sizes are still very big - 13 MB for the Sigma image (14.75 MP) and 16.4 MB for the Sony image (24 MP).

I exported both images from raw files to high quality, unsharpened sRBG jpegs, and then sharpened in GIMP, before exporting.

Here is a screen-capture of the settings I used in SPP 6.4.0:

I decided to shoot these, because I wanted to see if a 1.7x calculation would be realistic, and I have to say until I get a Nikon D5300 and a Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX macro lens for it and do a few tests like this, I probably won't know for sure . . . and even then there could be sample variation between the lenses.

Just in case you're wondering, this is my bike - the one I rode 900 miles from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Asheville, North Carolina. I still ride it regularly and get around quite well on it. That front tire is the same one I rode on four years ago, when I rode to North Carolina. I had to replace the back tire a couple of years ago.
