A thing with the Mk III it probably does what it says it is going to do very well. An acid test is I would never say to a friend you must go out and buy a Mk II it is a great camera as there is a good chance they may never talk to you again as getting it to do what it can do is not an easy job.

I'm always iffy about recommending any camera to friends, but I don't know what else I'd recommend in compacts instead. Maybe if they want everything on auto it's easier. I tried Fuji and had a bad experience. I don't even like having the RX100 in my hands to shoot with. I have one pro photographer friend who swears by his GRII but like many who like it he mostly shoots street photography and the complete lack of a zoom is an issue.  I did recommend the Canon M Series to someone last year who was wanting to start shooting with a system but not sure how heavy to invest, and they turned out happy. I usually do advise people not to care too much about flash, and a viewfinder is optional I guess.
The thing about a camera with good external controls is it's not so good for people who don't have experience of manual shooting anyway.
