For m there series has always been defined by (a) one of the largest sensors on the market and (b) the external controls which are what I love the most about them so - by my idea - it's a good next step.

The G1X II is still great though. I love the image quality I got shooting that Taiwanese singer in the studio. And I really was impressed by my first generation G1X in Rome (I used it largely because I was worried about camera thieves with the 5D)

But then I tried the G7X, didn't like it too much because it had no viewfinder, then moved to the G5X for the viewfinder, then moved to the G7X II because despite having no viewfinder it had a newer and better sensor. This one already manages to combine bits of all three of those cameras I liked, so it works for me as a second camera. They certainly do keep us on the roundabouts. And friends of mine do quite well out of buying second hand gear from me sometimes.

A thing with the Mk III it probably does what it says it is going to do very well. An acid test is I would never say to a friend you must go out and buy a Mk II it is a great camera as there is a good chance they may never talk to you again as getting it to do what it can do is not an easy job.
