you would expect a decent battery life in a premium price? but no you got 25% less here.

This just shows another laziness in body developments (using the same old G5x body design)

G1X3's battery is the same NB-13L used in many other Canon compact cameras (G5X/G7X/G9X series, SX620HS, SX720HS). Because the large sensor and lens of the G1X3 consume more juice than the smaller models, it makes sense that G1X3 is less forgiving on the battery.

Now, you could chalk up Canon's decision not to use a larger battery to "laziness." However, I have noticed that people on DPR get up in arms when a camera maker changes the battery, presumably because they can no longer use their old batteries. I personally do not identify with this mindset, but it may be something Canon cannot afford to ignore. In which case the laziness "laziness" is on the part of the customers.

As for the body design, it would be one thing if you thought Canon did something wrong with the G5X and didn't fix it for G1X3, but otherwise, what are you complaining about? I do agree that neither are the comeliest-looking camera bodies around, but they seem very practical and easy to use (I've never owned either, but the layout looks very similar to EOS M5 which I do have).
