Have you tried using smaller apertures with your usual cameras? I think you'll find that you can get just as much depth of field if you use small enough apertures. Mind you, you might have to raise the ISO too in order to get fast enough shutter speeds.

I would love to see a comparison of the same subject captured with a "safe" aperture and one that is purported to caused diffraction.
