My version of the service manual does not provide any information that performing initial settings require calibration. However it does state that  mount box & Flash-Rom replacement do require reload of calibration data.

Anyhow, initial settings is where the hardware is initialized for a particular model / mainboard revision, meaning languages,PAL or NTSC, data format which can only be done once. What is missing is the last step where the model number must be confirmed, but not changed, to exit the initial settings.
