I've ordered a T7i with 18-55 STM f/4. I have an 18-55 STM f/3.5 with my 650D. Of course I'll be able to test both lenses, but I'm wondering if there are any good test comparisons. I haven't been able to find any.

There's a copy to copy variation. I compared the older STM and newer one (which I got with T7i) and find them similar. The older one was a tad sharper in the wider end. Both have noticeable CA when shot wide open in general contrasty scene.

I got a second copy of newer STM when I bought a 200D (I sold off the T7i) and that one is noticeably sharper (when pixel peeping) and much has better CA performance then both the older version and the one that came with t7i.

I have the f/4 version of the 18-55mm and find it to be tack sharp with little CA, if any. In fact, this lens is so good that I wonder what the need is to spend money on more expensive lenses unless you need better low light capability or just have to have the best IQ possible. One would have to spend $1,000, or more, for a wide to medium range zoom to get appreciably better IQ, IMO.
