M5(or M6) with Sigma 100-400?
Jan 25, 2018
Hi guys,
I'm a new(so new that I have the body but don't have lenses for it (cause the body was delivered faster)) owner of the Eos M5 and I want to buy a telephoto lens.
So I've got some experience with the Sigma 150-600 C on 70d before and I pretty much liked it. And I know that this lens(150-600 C) works without problems with the M5(I've read some reviews).
So cause I don't own the 150-600 I'm considering the following options:
- Sigma 100-400 + occasionally the 1.4 TC.
- Sigma 150-600 C
What I like about option 1:
- Lighter
- Closer focusing distance(this is a big + for me)
What I don't know(and would like to know) about option 1:
- Does it focus OK with the M5(M6)? I've read somewhere that there were AF problems with the Sigma 100-400 and the M5. But I've also read about a couple of firmware updates of the lens. Maybe the problem is no more?
- How's the quality with the Sigma 1.4 TC? Is it acceptable or is it bad?
If somebody helps me with answering the questions about the 100-400 I will be very grateful.
The Sigma 150-600 C is a great lens but if the 100-400 with TC is not much worse on the long end (Yep - I know - it'll be f/9) and if the AF is OK with our cameras then I'll go for the 100-400 because of it closer focusing distance and lighter weight (and I won't be using it with the TC all the time). If the Sigma 100-400 has AF issues then I'll go for the 150-600.
P.S. I don't have the money for Canon 100-400 ll. I didn't mention the Tamron 100-400 in my question cause from what I've seen it's optically not on the same level with the Sigma (and I expect it to be much worse with the TC).
