First time photo/hiking trip New Zealand. Tips/tricks.

Ey there,

I have been shooting with my X-T1 for just over an year now. Took it on some trips to Iceland, several states in the US and to Scotland now.

All these times I was with friends or girlfriend on the trip and I actually noticed that I just had a great time shooting and sometimes forgetting the time (and the company) (like getting up at midnight to go see the Milky way core and end up being away for 3 hours).

Now I am going on a trip by myself to New Zealand (im from Holland myself) and this is my first trip by myself that I just want to do road tripping by myself: hiking, go skiing (i go in may/june so beginning of ski season), stargazing, do some tours etc.

Now off course the question that everyone asks here:

What lenses to bring?

  • I want he Samyang 12 mm and 21 mm for landscape and night photography.
  • The X100S for general walk around and to put it in my jacket when I hit the slopes or go into town at night. Its a great throw around camera.
  • But I cant decide if I should take the 60mm (a lens I hardly use but I really like) (or instead the Helios 44-2 58mm) or the 35mm f2. For size and weight these two dont really matter. I like the thought to be able to play around with macro and DOF.

I also have the 18-135 and I like the versatility but dont really enjoy shooting (it has the same filter thread as the 12 mm and thats convenient haha)... Would be good next to the X100S though.

Have the 50-230 also and I adore that lens and the pictures that come out of it when I go shooting animals. Do I actually need so much reach to get some landscape detail shots or should the 60 be suffice.

Because I dont want to bring all my stuff with me to be honest.

Ive got an remote shutter and around 5 batteries for the X-T1 plus double USB charger so should be good.

Any other tips or tricks people have here for me? Any experiences from your own recent trips that I should know about?
