D850/80-400 vs a7RIII/100-400, AF-S and AF-C accuracy
19

I've just finished a comparison of the autofocus accuracy of the Sony a7RIII with the Sony 100-400 GM to that of the D850 with the Nikon 80-400 VR II using PDAF. All tests were done at 400 mm with both lenses.

The a7RIII is far more accurate using AF-S, due to its decreased focusing variation and lower focus shift. Things are a lot closer when using AF-C because focus variation increases sharply when the a7RIII is used that way with this lens.

Not shown in the above links is the fact that the Sony 100-400 is slightly sharper in the range of f/5.6 through f/11 at 400mm. It is quite a bit sharper at 100 mm.
