Nikkor 200-500 Finds a Winter Eagle
15

Until recently, the 2017-18 winter season has been unseasonably warm and dry. Flagstaff received about 3-inches of snow on January 9, marking the second latest date on record for the first measurable snowfall of a winter season in northern Arizona. As a result of the dry conditions, we've seen less bird and wildlife activity in the area than normal. However, there have been some positive signs of change in recent days. Last Saturday, we received about 6-inches of snow. Sunday during my weekly excursion out Lake Mary Road in search of mammals and raptors, I spent about 50 minutes observing and photographing this beautiful bird.

A bald eagle studies the goings on at a pullout from its perch in a snag along Lake Mary Road.
