D850 star trails, how to minimize time between frames
1

Hi, I tried shooting star trails with my D850 and found that for a 30s exposure, there was a 3 second delay between frames. I had the camera set to CL, live view off, and was triggering by locking a cable release down. I would generally expect this to have a sub-second delay between shots (CL is set to 4FPS so a 0.25s delay max) but it seems like the camera was spending some time thinking between shots. I have long exposure noise reduction off (that would have introduced a munch longer delay) and didn't have self timer or exposure delay enabled. Anybody have tips on how to fire back-to-back long exposures with a shorter delay? Maybe I need to use the time lapse feature, or use one of the modes with electronic shutter or live view.
