Buying Nikon D3300 for Close-Up Web Photography

Hi all -

I'm about to venture beyond pointing and clicking using my kid's ipod (remember those?). I've read numerous posts about photographing close-up (ex. jewelry) and I want to confirm my thinking process and decision. Any comments and criticisms appreciated!

Here is my thinking:

Nikon D3300 24.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR with Auto Focus-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II Zoom Lens

Older model and as such affordable.

The 24.2 mega pixels is good quality for close up photos (good enough for the web!).

Enough pixels that cropped images will not be pixelated.

The zoom lens allows close ups with good depth of field.

Has manual aperture control (among many manual options), so I can set my own depth of field.

I'd appreciate any feedback!
