Pentax K-1 and DA 12-24, my experience

Hi folks,

I have been using my 12-24 which I bought in 2005/2006 for the \*ist DS on my K-1 for over a year now.

I think it's the best sub-20mm autofocus lens that takes filters that is available for the K-1. It's also the only one, I think

If you crop very wide aspect ratios (3:1) or square, it gives good coverage from between 14 and 15mm.

If you stay 3:2, it gives good coverage from between 16 and 17mm

From 23mm or so, some internal baffle seems to create a different kind of vignetting. I know some people say it is good up to 24mm, but I find the vignetting a bit too much. So I would call it a 17-22mm lens on the K-1 for normal use.

Not great for a zoom, but a very flexible prime lens

Lens profile in LR does not work well but manual controls seem to be sufficient.

Snappy focus, great colours and contrast, but original hood needs to be left off or hack-sawed wider to prevent flare.

Gorgeous lens stars.

standard 77mm filters seem to cause negligible extra vignetting

Best wishes
