I found a work around

it seems that even if I set it per Fujifilm manual command

>> SCREEN SET-UP > PREVIEW EXP. IN MANUAL MODE MODE. Select OFF ... <

and

manually set brightness of the LCD, OVF, EVF

There is still nothing to be seen on a night sky.

It seems the Hybridviewfinder is either absorning to much light or

the Sensor is not sending enough signal or does not boost it enough to become visible ?

I also could not manage to switch the EVF, OVF, LCD off via the camera menu ?

Here is what I resorted to for now:

Select LCD view,

Select T on shutter speed wheel

Dial in desired shutter speed via thumb wheel.

Then I use a strip of gaffer's tape to blacken out the whole screen

( because it's brightness will kill your night vision )

Now I am able to use the bare bones OVF - now without hybridization -

and finally can see what I am looking at.

Alternatively I am using an old Leica 3.5cm viewfinder and tape a piece

of red darkroom masking tape over the EVF , not to loose my night vision.

Also ... does anyone here know if this camera behavior is the same with all later X100 models ?

Any suggestions on the subject are most welcome !
