I tried out both the 1.4 and 2 at the Wondershop Fujifilm Store in NY yesterday. I have to say I was a little bothered by how slowly the 1.4 focused. That said, for a portrait photography autofocus is not really an issue, but I I really liked how the f2 functioned. Now, if I can be annoying, I suggest the 56 1.2 for portraits. I own it and love it for portraits.

I understand the AF is slower on the X-T1 compared to the X-T2. I have the 35mm 1.4 and bought it in preference to the 2.0, it's a little noisy, but really great, and AF isn't an issue imo. Agree regarding 56 1.2.
