Re: Replacement for my ageing S90

I've been comparing lots of small canon P and shoots and have held several at best buy.  I think it depends on what physical size you can live with.  The g9x II is almost the identical size and weight of the s90.  The g7X II has more features but is substantially heavier and feels "chunky" to me.  I think the g9X II is jeans-pocketable and the g7X II is a little too big and really heavy for that (IMO, other's personal preferences may differ).  Both the G9x II and the g7X II pictures on flickr look excellent to me for this size of a camera.  I would suggest checking those out.

Of course the larger-sized sensor cameras will be even better but cost more and are larger (g1x III etc).  If you are willing to live with a camera larger than the g7x II there are tons of cameras to choose from including g1x III, mirorless DSLRs, DSLRs, etc. etc.

So maximum size you can live with is a key factor IMO.  For me jeans-pocketable means I can take it anywhere when traveling and forget it's there almost.  Jacket pocketable is a whole other story and may mean carrying it on a sling strap (I don't like neck straps).  And if I'm carrying it on a sling strap I might as well have a full frame DSLR for the huge increase in image quality.  That's just how I think about it though and other people of course have different preferences.  I was very impressed with the g7X II, it is just a little heavy and big for my preference with this type of camera.
