Connecting a D800 to a classroon digital projector

I have a mini lecture series approaching, and I'd like to do some hands-on demos with my camera. I'd be thrilled if the students could see the freshly taken image projected on the screen by the ceiling mounted digital projector. I was told that computers are routinely plugged in via a VGA connector on the front desk.

I see that there is an HDMI mini pin connection on the side of the camera. The thought that came to me was to use an HDMI mini pin connector to VGA cable such as this one:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/GPCT-Gold-Plated-1-8M-HDMI-VGA-Adapter-Cable-Male-Male-Converter-Compatible-W-DVD-Players-TV-Boxes-Blu-Ray-Players-Desktop-PC-Laptop-Projector-Xbox-P/172088053?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=2586&adid=22222222227084009668&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=196648913230&wl4=pla-314421852456&wl5=9004555&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=113145934&wl11=online&wl12=172088053&wl13=&veh=sem

Or would using the mini USB connector on the camera be a better solution???

Has anyone attempted doing this? Does this seem to work? I don't need live view, but rather just a way of showing an image larger than the one on the rear LCD of the camera. Additionally, most of these cables seem to be only 6 feet in length, opening up a slew of problems ( like someone tripping and sending my camera to the floor ).

Any ideas on how to do this safely and easily???? ......Jeff Barlowe
