Am I ruining my tripod??

Hi all,

Just about a month ago (give a week) I bought the Manfrotto MVH500AH tripod head. Great build quality and pan/tilt abilities. I’ve been travelling quite a lot recently, thus I am packing the head in and out of bags. One or two times before, I decided not to remove the head from the legs and to save space bent the head all the way back and tightened it, if it wasn’t tightened it would glide back rather quickly. It stayed like this for approx an hour. I also travel with this head on aircraft rather often and was just wondering if the freezing from the hold would damage the fluid pan system. So, what I’m trying to get at is: am I affecting the smoothness of the pan/tilt ability on this tripod head by: putting it in awkward positions and pulling the head right back for an hour and putting it in the freezing hold of an aeroplane (I was just wondering if the liquid used will slowly deteriorate if I keep freeze/unfreezing it). I don’t know of the liquid uses any antifreeze. Thanks for any assistance!
