If you want to do long exposure during the day, you'll need a ND Filter (not a polarized filter), which blocks light which comes to your sensor. There are a few stronger and lighter ND Filter (200, 400, etc.), which allows you longer or shorter shutter speed.

Thanks again for your previous comments.  I did go back to my 12-24 with the ND filter and made it work this time.  Some patience and a little more knowledge, helped.
