I have a very sharp Nikon 300mm F4 that was 1/4th the price of the Olympus and I can use it on two systems (one with AF).

I do something similar . . .

my main birding gear is Canon DSLR, and sometimes I take my E-M1.2 body and Metabones Adapter along when I want extra reach (in good light), but I look at it this way: I'm adapting my M.43 body to my Canon EF system, ie the Metabones is a body adapter not a lens adapter
