S90 vs. G5X

Haha yes I was thinking 2 sb-800s. I love that flash. Powerful, reliable, smart. I also picked up 2 Norman 800 power packs and 9 lh2400 flash heads with various modifiers for ridiculously cheap. The issue is too much light with these. Need to use nd gels to reduce.
9 LH2400 flash heads? That sounds like serious business.
You’ll probably blow the sensor out the camera, if you use all of them together. :-D

Yea the heads themselves can handle up to 2400 Watt/seconds each in theory. But the most one can do with 2 P800D power packs is 1600 watt/seconds in various configurations (8 heads @ 200 w/s, 2 @ 800, 4 @ 400, or any combo -including 100w/s if needed). But that is still the equivalent of around 27 sb-800s so it is a bit of light. The minimum one can do with one power pack is 2 heads x 100 W/s (or one head at 200 w/s).

What is crazy is this old norman stuff is almost given away now and is known as one of the most reliable systems there is. Tons of modifiers available for them also (beauty dish, strip lights, soft boxes, 5/7/9/10/16" reflectors of various types, snoots, flags, barn doors, grids, filter holders, etc. etc.) which can often be included in a used set. I like the series 900 stuff as it is all compatible -Lh2000/lh2400/lh2500 heads. There are a lot of Norman battery power packs out there also but I have never messed with those.

Since I got the FZ1000 in 2015, I found it exceeded the performance of my 70D, and sold it. I still have occasional itches to get another DSLR or Mirrorless ILC; but so far have resisted the temptation. I did buy an refurbished Canon 80D and 18-135 IS USM lens and after finding the FZ1000 was still higher resolution and so much lighter, I sent it back.

I'm still waiting patiently for Canon to bring out the MK II versions of the G5X and G3X with the DIGIC 7 processor, and maybe some other changes. I'd like to see the G5X Mk II have a longer lens to compete with the Panasonic ZS100/TZ100; and the G3X Mk II to have a built in EVF.

Of course, I'm still waiting for Canon to bring out a Pro 2 to fix what was wrong with the Pro 1.

It’s quite incredible that people sell such strobes. Probably some pro studios, switching to something else. You should have a lot of possibilities with that stuff.

The most I’ve used are 4 400 Ws Elinchroms for product photography.
I always try to keep it as simple as possible.

Right on. I've switched systems several times, and the learning curve is as much of a problem as the cost.

When I bought the FZ1000 in March of 2015, the plan was to use it for some local shots; but mostly for a high quality travel camera because of its portability. I knew from the specifications that it could use the built in flash as the commander for wireless control of off-camera flash. I had been doing that for a while with several earlier DSLR's, and expected to continue to use the 70D for that role for family gatherings. But the FZ1000 turned out to be sharper than the 70D, so I sold the Canon gear and bought a pair of used Olympus FL36R flashes.

I really don't need a DSLR of MILC; but my GAS still nags me now and then; but in nearly 3 years I still haven't succumbed to GAS.
