Some serious low end A7rIII deep sky astrophotography
48

Many talks a lot about the Star Eater issue, but just a few take some time to test what this really mean for their night sky and astrophoto work. Last night we had a few hours with clear skies, so I did some tests with my A7rIII and the Loxia 85 mm at f:4. ISO was set to 800, exposure for each frame was two minutes, and the files were stacked with RegiStar. All deeep sky pictures are 100% crop, taken with uncompressed raw and developed with Lighhroom before stacking, and then fine tuned with Photoshop. The camera was put on my AstroTrac tracking platform to compensate for Eart's  rotation so that star trails were avoided.

At the bottom a test without (3.2 sec) and with Star Eater (30 sec and Bulb setting), compared to a total exposure of 60 seconds.

Well, here are some results! Great fun!

Andomeda galaxy, M31 and neighbour galaxy. We can see dust band and denser regions with stars at the lower left. A7rIII, 85 mm Loxia at f:4, 30 minutes total exposure.

The Pinwheel galaxy, M33 and a bright star in Triangulum. A7rIII, 85 mm Loxia at f:4, 20 minutes total exposure.

The Pleiades, M45 and gas and dust that will form planets. A7rIII, 85 mm Loxia at f:4, 40 minutes total exposure.

The Orion nebula M42 with Barnard's loob (below) and Running Man nebula (above). A7rIII, 85 mm Loxia at f:4, 30 minutes total exposure.

Orion's belt, the 3 brightest stars with nice Loxia sunstars! Horsehead nebula (the small pit in teh reddish area), pretty faint due to low Hydrogen alpha response, and Flame nebula (above the left star in Orion's belt). A7rIII, 85 mm Loxia at f:4, 30 minutes total exposure.

The Wich Head nebula, a very faint nebula to the right of Riegel, a bright star in the constellation of Orion. A7rIII, 85 mm Loxia at f:4, 20 minutes total exposure.

The Hyades, a region with a bright star and lots of faint stars. 50% pixel size. Just a test without and with Star Eater - all stacked to 60 sec exposure. Above 19 x 3.2 sec exposures, middle 2 x 30 sec exposures, and top one 60 sec exposure with Bulb setting. Loxia 85 mm at f:4.
